ALOR SETAR, 23 April 2026 - The leadership of the Langkawi International Film Festival (LIFF) 2026 today attended a royal audience with His Royal Highness the Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman at Istana Anak Bukit, Alor Setar. The meeting was held at Balai Menghadap Besar at 10:00 AM.

Representing LIFF were Profesor Emeritus Datuk Seri Dr. Haji Awang bin Sariyan, Chairman of LIFF, and Dr. Ferri Anugerah Makmur, President of LIFF.

During the meeting, the LIFF delegation shared the festival’s vision of positioning Langkawi as a leading destination for international cinema, cultural exchange, and creative industry development. Discussions also touched on the festival’s potential contribution to tourism growth, economic opportunities, and Malaysia’s international branding.

LIFF 2026 is scheduled to take place from 2 to 4 October 2026 in Langkawi, Malaysia, and is expected to bring together filmmakers, industry leaders, investors, and cultural representatives from around the world, further strengthening Langkawi’s profile as an emerging global creative hub.

The royal audience marks an important milestone for the festival as organisers continue preparations for LIFF 2026 and seek to elevate Malaysia’s presence on the international film calendar.
