Langkawi International Film Festival (LIFF)
Launched in 2026, the Langkawi International Film Festival (LIFF) stands as Malaysia’s premier global film platform - a visionary initiative transforming the Jewel of Kedah into Asia’s New Film Paradise. Framed by Langkawi’s breathtaking natural beauty, cultural depth and cinematic allure, LIFF invites the world to celebrate stories that bridge continents, traditions and generations.
Each year, the festival unites an inspiring mix of filmmakers, producers, distributors, students, investors and cultural visionaries for three extraordinary days of cinema, creativity and collaboration. Against the island’s stunning backdrop, LIFF unfolds through open-air screenings, curated masterclasses, film labs and vibrant cultural showcases - illuminating Malaysia’s creative soul.
More than a festival, LIFF is a movement - a celebration of Malaysia’s multicultural identity and a gateway for global storytelling, sustainability and co-production. As the creative heartbeat of the region, Langkawi becomes a meeting ground for cinephiles, families and industry leaders to experience the unifying power of film.
Proudly part of Visit Malaysia 2026, LIFF positions Langkawi not only as a jewel of tourism but as a strategic cultural bridge connecting Asia with the international film community - a destination where cinema, culture and nature converge.
OPEN-AIR
Experience cinema under the stars - where Langkawi’s natural beauty becomes part of the story. Audiences gather on beaches, courtyards and hilltop venues to enjoy world cinema in a breathtaking open-air setting. Each screening blends film, nature and community creating unforgettable cinematic nights.
FILM LABS
The festival’s film labs are incubators for innovation - bringing together emerging filmmakers, writers and producers to refine scripts, develop projects and connect with mentors. Through one-to-one feedback, workshops, and networking, participants turn creative ideas into viable productions ready for global audiences.
LIFF NATIVE VOICE EXCHANGE (NVE)
LIFF Native Voice Exchange (NVE) is a flagship conversation where international celebrities, filmmakers, and cultural icons speak in their mother tongues. With simultaneous interpretation and on-screen captions, NVE transforms a multilingual stage into a shared cinematic dialogue. Presented as an IMLD Dialogue in tribute to UNESCO’s International Mother Language Day, NVE celebrates authenticity, inclusion, and the power of language to connect cultures across borders. More than just a talk, it’s a living expression of identity, emotion, and storytelling at its purest.
