Yuuji Nomura was born in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. He began acting at the age of sixteen, appearing in TV movies and other productions. In August 2004, he launched his one-man theater unit, Opampon Sousousosha, where he writes and directs all productions—known for portraying muddled human characters with a mix of pathos and laughter. He is also active as an actor. He began producing films in 2021. Cat Pupa is his second feature film, following Long Goodbye.
